Mindy Montford attended the University of Texas for both her undergraduate and law degrees. She began her legal career as a misdemeanor prosecutor in the Harris County District Attorney’s Office handling offenses such as theft, drug cases, assault family violence, and DWI. She returned to Austin in 1997 and went to work for State Senator Eddie Lucio, Jr., serving as his general counsel where she helped draft key pieces of criminal justice legislation. In 1999, Mindy returned to the field of prosecution as a Travis County assistant district attorney. During her time as a felony prosecutor, Mindy handled offenses ranging from aggravated robbery and sexual assault to child abuse and capital murder cases. Mindy opened her solo practice in 2008 focusing on criminal defense and family law cases. Throughout her career as both a prosecutor and defense attorney, Mindy has practiced before every criminal county and district court in Travis County and has tried more than 100 cases. She frequently appears on local news and radio stations as a legal expert discussing current court cases and criminal law issues.
|• Co-founder of the Prosecution Externship Course at the University of Texas School of Law. Served as adjunct professor teaching law students trial skills, case investigation, and hands-on courtroom training.|
|• Serves on the Travis County “A List” of approximately 50 court-appointed attorneys approved by the district judges as qualified to handle the most serious felony offenses.|
|• Has testified numerous times as a resource witness before several Texas House and Senate committees regarding criminal justice reform and proposed legislation.|
|• Has been a guest speaker and instructor on criminal law for the State Bar of Texas, the Texas District and County Attorney’s Association, local bar associations and law enforcement agencies.|
|• Has served as a board member for the Travis County Women Lawyers’ Association, the Girl Scouts/Lone Star Council, the Junior League of Austin, the Texas District and County Attorney’s Association Foundation and the Crime Prevention Institute.|
